At East Lancashire Cricket Club, we have a Ladies' Afternoon Group meeting fortnightly on Tuesday afternoons and a Ladies' Bible Study on Thursday mornings. More details of both of these are below, together with a download file of their activities for the latter part of 2019.
On the alternate Tuesdays from the Ladies' Afternoon Group, there is also a Ladies' Meeting at Bethesda Chapel, with Bible talks. Pictures of some of the activities are at the bottom of this page.
Ladies' Bible Study: Jean Eccleston, a former minister’s wife, started this group over 25 years ago and it has continued with various leaders ever since. It is 'ladies only' as many ladies feel more able to pray, study and give their opinions in that sort of group. After coffee from 10 to 10.30 am and lots of sharing of problems and successes, we think of those who are in special need of prayer, before we have our prayer time, which we all join in. Then follows our Bible Study. Sometimes it is based on a specific book or a selected passage from the Bible, or maybe a topic, looking at what the Bible says about it. There is usually lots of discussion! All ladies are welcome. The dates of the studies are on the calendar.
Ladies' Afternoon: This was introduced at Leamington Road well over 100 years ago and was firstly named The Girls’ Guild. At that time, education was limited for young ladies, so the idea was to give them training in life skills and introduce them to topics that would extend their minds. Over the years the group continued, meeting on a Wednesday evening, always with a devotional opening and then following all sorts of topics, including Christian ones, history, craft, travel and many more. When we left Leamington Road in 2013 we were fortunate to be able to transfer to the nearby East Lancs Cricket Club, which is in the area where many of the ladies who attend live at present. We now call ourselves Ladies’ Afternoon. We meet on Tuesdays at 2pm and our aim is to reach out to ladies who want to learn new things, share time with others and have a cup of tea, as we extend our Christian love to each other. All ladies are very welcome to come and join with us and dates and topics are on the calendar.
