Without the Bible, we might realise that there is a God by looking round about us at the world and deciding that someone powerful must have created it, but we wouldn't know much about what the creator was like. But Christians believe that God, acting through his Holy Spirit, inspired human authors, over many centuries, to write down what he wanted to communicate to us so that we could actually know him. Through the Bible, we learn about God and are introduced to the Bible's central figure, Jesus Christ, whom the Bible claims to be God. His coming was predicted in the earliest parts of the Bible and the latter parts of the Bible describe his coming to our planet, God in human form, in the first century AD. Jesus gave us the ultimate picture of what God is like by becoming one of us, in order to rescue us - read more about this here.
The Bible is an amazing, unique book: 1500 years in the making, with 40 human writers of many backgrounds and circumstances, written on 3 continents, in 3 languages, yet it remains one story, with amazing harmony in all its teaching, even on controversial subjects. This can only be explained if there was indeed one true author behind it - God himself. The Bible has miraculously withstood every attempt (and there have been many in history) to ban it, destroy it or discredit it. It is accurate historically, archaeologically, scientifically and in describing why things are the way that they are. But most of all, the Bible has the power to transform the lives of those who read it and are introduced to Jesus Christ through it.
We encourage you to read the Bible for yourself. If you haven't got a copy, you can read it online here. Or, if you contact us, we'd be very happy to arrange to give you a copy. You can join us on Sundays at BBC as we learn about the Bible and hear it explained, or you can come along to one of our 'Christianity Explored' courses.
